Just a little snippet to reflect on a point I have made several times, but which gets little attention or response in Atlanta. That is, that the heavy load of talent John Schuerholz sent to the Texas Rangers for Mark Teixeira (who spent less than a full season with the Braves) has virtually stocked the Rangers’ starting lineup. Jarod Saltalamacchia, the catcher; Elvis Andrus, the shortstop; Matt Harrison, a starting pitcher who won nine games last season; and the probability that Nefti Feliz will soon be among the Rangers’ pitchers.
The Braves have not responded in any way to this outrageous trade. It was far worse than the trade of Adam Wainwright and Jason Marquis to the Cardinals for J.D. Drew, who was only passing through town, and is now with the Red Sox. For all the praise the Schuerholz era has received for the Braves developed in the farm system, he has thus far escaped the criticism he should incur for these botches.
Enjoy your day.
